Madhya Pradesh Transport Department plays a crucial role in delivering LMO to destination amid the second wave of Covid..

– In the fight against Covid-19 in Madhya Pradesh, the transport department has played a crucial role by delivering Liquid Medical Oxygen(LMO) safely and timely at the hospitals where a huge quantity of oxygen was required to a lot of patients across the state.

The department has entrusted an arduous responsibility of coordination and monitoring of the transportation of LMO tankers to the Additional Transport Commissioner Enforcement(ATCE), Arvind Saxena who is basically a Deputy Inspector General of Police and is on deputation here. The decision was taken because uneven supply and logistical issues had led to an oxygen crisis in some states.

The state has witnessed a record surge in the Covid-19 cases from April 15 to May 15, during the period, the demand for oxygen was increased to the patients when they were under treatment in the hospitals.

In view of the high demand for oxygen, the government has on 10 April set up a control command centre in Bhopal to monitor the supply, delivery and logistics of the LMO to the hospitals, in which the higher officers of various departments, including transport, have been engaged to ensure the smooth supply.

Handling the responsibility, Saxena has set up two control rooms in Bhopal and Gwalior to monitor the supply, delivery and logistics of the LMO to the hospitals. He engaged the RTOs and transport inspectors along with the police, they are working round the clock, he himself visited Kolkata to develop a mechanism for a hindrance-free logistic system.

The supply of the life-saving gas is receiving from the Gujrat, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Maharastra and Odisha to the state. During the peak of the Covid wave, around 560 metric tons of LMO was being supplied daily to the state from the various plants but due to the slowdown in the Covid cases, it has now reduced to around 250 MT.

Trucks and express trains are being used to carry the LMO tankers while Boeing C-17 Globemaster aircraft of the Indian Air Force are being utilized for decantation to return back the empty gas containers.

“During a catastrophic shortage of life-saving gas, it was a big challenge to deliver the LMO safely, without interrupted and timely at the hospitals where the patients were gasping for breaths. But our team did this crucial task due to its day and night hard work and a deep vigil on the inter-state and intra-state movement of the tankers”, Saxena told Positive Post Of India.

Most of the container trucks of MLO are entering the state through Khawas, Pitol, Sausar, Motinala, Morena and Chirula check-posts from the other states. The enforcement staff and police are deployed there for the 24 *7 coordination.

“I am satisfied by doing something to humankind in the calamitous period. I am extremely fortunate that I was become to be a part of saving human lives in this crisis”, Saxena also said, on asking about conducting this tough task.

He shared that around 18 times breakdown of the LMO trucks had so far taken place outside and inside the state but due to the activeness and the hard work of the teams they delivered LMO to the destination at the scheduled time.

“Our teams regularly follow and patrolling the tankers since they starting from industries. I am thankful to the police officers of the other states who paid me great support to do this crucial task. We are also taking care of the drivers and provide them food, snacks, water, hand globes and sanitizer”, Saxena added.

“I am thankful to the police officers of CG, Gujrat, UP, Odisha, Maharashtra and Odisha states who paid me great support to do this crucial task”, he further added.

He praised the SPs including, Sagar, Ratlam, Jabalpur, Seoni, Narsinghpur, Jhabua, Alrajpur and others of the state who played an important role in the patrolling and following to LMO tankers and helped for resolving the logistics-related difficulties.

The subordinate officers and staff have also been executing this crucial work since 14 April, such as RTOs, Sanjay Tiwari, HK Singh, Jitendra Raghuwanshi and RTIs, Jagdish Meena, Pramod Kapse, Rajendra Soni, PS Bhilala, Veeresh Tumram, TPS Bhadouria, Aleem Khan, etc. and TSIs, Ankita Solanki, Kuldeep Sharma, Ritu Raghuwanshi, Anamika Koli, etc. Saxena also mentioned the names of some head constables and constables for their exemplary work amid the pandemic.
